At the start of a race there is a galore of emotions that pass trough an athletes mind. Lets discuss our thoughts individually:
Jayme: At the start of the race I get a sickening feeling in my body. I feel like I have the weight of the world on my shoulders and the only way to get the weight off is to hear the BANG of the gun. After the blast, it is all up to me to do what needs to be done: run my race.
Drue: When I am at the start line with the adrenaline rushing through my blood, I feel like I just want to go home. But then I realize that I have trained so long to be where I am right now. I feel the pressure to do well, not only for my team, but for myself. I then feel a sense of confidence and security that carries me through to when the gun goes off.
This not only applies to track and field.. it applies to life in general. Starting a new business, class, job etc. can also arouse many types of like emotions. The feeling of pressure haunts us all, but, we can all use it to our advantage in life by letting it motivate us. You will never know what it feels like until you put yourself into an uncomfortable situation but this could lead to success and new opportunities.
